RELATOPIA is a multidisciplinary project exploring the evolution of couple relationships and the concept of family in Romania over the past six decades. Developed as an extension of the Matched Society initiative, it brings together experts in psychology, sociology, anthropology, and law, alongside artists and cultural practitioners, in a shared process of research and creation.

Through both artistic and scientific perspectives, RELATOPIA offers a deeper understanding of coexistence and examines how social, political, and technological changes have reshaped the ways people connect and live together. The project bridges past and present, analog and digital, creating a reflective space for exploring how we relate to one another — our needs, vulnerabilities, and the beauty of contemporary relationships.

A cultural initiative organized by the VAR Association, taking place between April and November 2025.

MATCHED SOCIETY – we explore the trail of matrimonial ads over the past 150 years

– from messages in newspapers, to swipes and emoticons –

Matched Society, a project of the VAR association, analyzes the evolution of matrimonial ads from messages in newspapers to online dating, with the involvement of an interdisciplinary team made up of artists, professionals from the fields of sociology and psychology, IT experts and cultural operators. The aim of the project is to investigate the impact of this phenomenon on social behaviors and to identify possible generational transmissions in communication and meeting strategies.

This multidisciplinary approach aims to bring to the fore not only changes and continuities in how we seek connections, but also to provide a deeper understanding of the cultural and social influences that have shaped these interactions over time.

Project co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration and supported by AMIQ. A cultural approach organized by the VAR association between March and October 2024.
